CSOs ask govt to fulfil promise of creating Rs10b population fund

ISLAMABAD: The coalition of 19 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on population calls upon the federal government to abide by the Council of Common Interests (CCI) decision of creating a Rs10 billion population fund, says a press release on Monday.
The CCI has endorsed a plan of action for achieving population stabilisation. The current budget has only allocated Rs1 billion against the original stipulated amount. The population fund has been created to fund the expansion of Lady Health Workers (LHWs); support innovative initiatives to improve access to family planning services and for procuring contraceptives. The provincial governments are required to match 50% amount of additional allocations for procurement of contraceptives and for increase in LHWs for 100% coverage for doorstep services. ....

Islamabad : Investment in family planning is strategic and has far-reaching implications to achieve a sustainable population growth rate in Pakistan. Cohesive actions are required at the federal and provincial levels to improve family planning programs.
This was stated by Dr. Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health, Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination in his keynote remarks at a consultative meeting held online.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Faisal Sultan also said the Council of Common Interest (CCI) recommendations provide a comprehensive framework for the federal and provincial governments to stabilize population growth. ....

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Dr. Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health, Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination said that investment in family planning was strategic and has far-reaching implications to achieve a sustainable population growth rate in Pakistan.
Speaking as a keynote speaker at a consultative meeting here on Tuesday, he said that cohesive actions were required at the federal and provincial levels to improve family planning programs.
Dr. Faisal Sultan also said the Council of Common Interest (CCI) recommendations provide a comprehensive framework for the federal and provincial governments to stabilize population growth. ....

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: “Integration of health and population welfare services is critical for improving the quality of life and wellbeing of our people. Pakistan’s rapid population growth poses serious challenges for achieving our development prospects.
The government continues to advocate for population stabilization to achieve a balance between population and resources. We are taking special measures to meet the country’s development prospects and improving the health and wellbeing of our people.”
