Ghana President, ECOWAS Parliament Speaker condemn Mali Coup – THE AUTHORITY NEWS

President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana and ECOWAS Parliament Speaker, Sidie Tunis have condemned the recent military coup in Mali.
Ghana President also called for the immediate need to convene a meeting of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of States and governments.
Akufo-Addo is also the Chair of the Authority made ECOWAS Heads of States and governments.
The duo spoke in Abuja Thursday during the opening of the 2021 First Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament.
According to Akufo-Addo , ECOWAS has spent a lot of political and material resources in restoring democracy to Mali after the last junta in 2020, hence the need for decisive actions by ECOWAS Presidents on Mali. ....

The Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS and President of Ghana, Mr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says that an Extraordinary Summit of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Governments will be convened for a decisive action on recent political developments in Mali.
Speaking at the opening of the 2021 First Extra Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament on Thursday in Abuja, Mr. Akufo-Addo, expressed worry on the political development in Mali and stated that ECOWAS had spent a lot of political and material resources to restore democracy in Mali after the last military coup in 2020. ....

Since the beginning of 2021 and as a follow-up of the events of last year,
the food security situation in Western Africa is a mixed picture. Although COVID-19 infection rates remained low compared to global figures, the impact of the pandemic led to reduced economic growth stemming from national restrictions put in place to slow the spread of the virus.
The restrictions on movement of people and closure of workplaces limited people’s access to income-generating activities and markets, hampering access to food.
The number of food-insecure people rose to almost 22 million in 2020, which is an increase of over 70 percent from the same period 2019. Some of the highest needs in the region were also countries with active conflict such as Nigeria, Niger and Burkina Faso. ....
