1,100-kg plastic bags seized by Ludhiana MC staff

The Municipal Corporation has intensified its drive against the use and sale of banned plastic carry bags in the city. A team, led by MC Secretary Jasdev Singh Sekhon, on Tuesday seized 1,100-kg plastic carry bags. The team had also seized around 125-kg plastic carry bags on Monday.
The team leader, Jasdev Singh Sekhon, said they conducted raids at Jawahar Nagar Camp and Sabzi Mandi on Hambran Road today. A total of 11 quintals of plastic carry bags were seized during the raids, while the team imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on seven violators. He said they would continue similar drive in the coming days. ....

Punjab Food, Civil, Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, accompanied by Industry and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora, today inspected the site at Baba Mukand Singh Nagar where the roof of a four-storeyed auto-part factory had collapsed on Monday, killing four persons and injuring seven workers. The roof had caved in while the level of lintel was being illegally raised with the help of jacks (lifting machines).

MCL collects Rs one crore property tax from Ludhiana Bus Stand | Ludhiana News


LUDHIANA: The Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL) on Saturday collected Rs one crore property tax from the local bus stand.
The move comes after the MCL issued a notice of Rs nine crore property tax to the bus stand authority a few days back.
Bus stand general manager Rachhpal Singh handed over a cheque of Rs one crore to the MCL joint commissioner Kulpreet Singh and assured that the remaining pending amount of tax would also be cleared in the coming days.
Superintendent Harwinder Singh Bindra said that a notice of Rs 1.5 crore property tax has also been issued to Zila Parishad and the tax would also be recovered from the office of the Deputy Commissioner and Police Commissioner. ....

MC likely to move resolution on shifting dairy complexes | Ludhiana News


Ludhiana: In what could bring about a huge change in the working of dairies in Ludhiana, the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, has made up its mind to shift the existing dairy complexes to Gorsian Kadar Baksh near Sidhwan Bet. But the consent of the civic body house needs to be taken for the same and therefore, MC officials have decided to move a resolution in the next house meeting for approval for the same.
A meeting in this regard was held under the chairmanship of MC commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal on Wednesday. Presently, there are two dairy complexes, one on Hambran road and the other on Tajpur road and for past sometime there have been talks of shifting these from the present location to tackle the problem of dumping of the waste from dairies into the Buddah Nullah. ....

MC launches drive to make Buddha Nullah garbage free by Jan 26 | Ludhiana News


Ludhiana: The municipal corporation has officially launched the Buddha Nullah cleanliness drive on Monday, which will continue for the next 15 days with the help of NSS/NCC volunteers from seven colleges of the city.
These volunteers will knock at the doors of people living in the colonies along the banks of the drain and would make them aware that a Rs 5,000 penalty would be imposed for throwing garbage into the drain and if anybody was caught burning garbage near the drain, then the penalty would be between Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000. Moreover, now the civic body authorities are planning to get FIRs registered against offenders. There is a target to make Buddha Nullah garbage free by January 26, 2021. ....
