Unsung no more: Hero ranger gets bravery medal

He may have lost a treasured watch but Glenroy Hackett has gained the thanks of a grateful nation for saving the lives of six people from drowning during his 37 years as a beach ranger.
Until now, his efforts have never been heavily publicized. But Hackett was no longer an unsung hero on Tuesday as he stood before Governor General Dame Sandra Mason at Government House to receive his
Barbados Bravery Medal for his efforts in saving the life of a young university student while swimming at a West Coast beach a few years ago.
Moments after receiving his award, Hackett told journalists that he was stationed at Sandy Lane Beach when a beachgoer alerted him that a woman had gotten into difficulty while in the water. ....

During a brief ceremony at Government House this morning, Brigadier General Sir Rudyard Eggleton Carrington Lewis was invested with the
Knight of St Andrew for extraordinary achievement and meritorious service to the military. He led the Caribbean forces involved in the US-led invasion of Grenada to restore order following the bloody October 1983 coup.

Companion of Honour of Barbados was awarded to O’Brien Trotman, a former Labour Party cabinet minister for his service in politics and contribution to the trade union movement. ....
