Additional suspects in court for over R1.1 Million Barberton Mine fraud


Bhekinkosi Fana Madonsela (30), a former Administration Clerk at Barberton mine, appeared before the Barberton Magistrate Court on Tuesday 11 May 2021. He was arrested by members of the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team with a warrant of arrest for Fraud, Theft, and Money Laundering on Tuesday, 11 May 2021.
Madonselas’ arrest followed his alleged link to a share of R300 000.00 received from his accomplices. He, along with Precious Nontobeko Magongo (36), were former Barberton mine employees, working as Clerk Administrators. Magongo was the first suspect to be arrested on the 01 March 2021 for receiving undue payment of almost half a Million rand (R497 885.00) fraudulently.
These undue payments were reportedly carried out by the main suspect, Simphiwe Sangwenyi (38), also a mine employee working as a financial Administrator. Sangweni is still being sought by the Hawks and a warrant of arrest was issued by Court on the 5 November 2020 against him. ....

Johannesburg - The assistant financial accountant who allegedly defrauded a mine in Barberton to the tune of R1.5 million has been released on R10 000 bail at the Barberton Magistrate’s Court.
Nontobeko Precious Magongo, 46, was arrested on Monday after the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team for fraud and theft used an arrest warrant to warn her and her alleged accomplice to appear in court on Monday.
Her accomplice, who worked at the same mine as a financial administrator, failed to appear in court and is out-at-large. ....

Alleged taxi owner murderers due to appear before court for bail application


Two alleged murderers of a taxi owner are due to make their second appearance before court for a formal bail application on Tuesday, 23 February 2021. Their appearance follows a deadly act in which a 34-year-old taxi owner was gunned down last week in Barberton. The two men aged 34 and 55, were then arrested at Nelspruit and Barberton respectively on Tuesday, 16 February 2021, after police investigation pointed out that they are somehow involved in the said murder.
Their arrest was informed by details of an incident that occurred on the evening of 12 February 2021, where a taxi owner had parked his Toyota Quantum kombi at the house of a certain motor mechanic and when he alighted, an armed man emerged out of nowhere. Without uttering a word, the gun-wielding man fired a shot aimed at the victim and thereafter fled the scene. ....
