AMARAVATI: Marching ahead with the winning streak, March has seen a resounding victory in the civic polls with people overwhelmingly endorsing YS Jagan Mohan Reddy s governance, the smooth aviation takeoff from Kurnool, Covid vaccination injecting confidence in the times of second wave besides other events during the month.
It was a landslide for YSRCP by clean sweeping all the Municipal Corporations and winning 74 of the 75 Municipalities. The Chief Minister has demonstrated to the world, the Government s commitment to empower weaker sections and women politically by giving 10 of the 11 Mayor posts to them, of which six are women, who now preside over the Municipal Corporations of Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati among others. Of the total 85 posts won, the Chief Minister has given 67 seats to SC, ST, BC and Minorities of which 52 are women. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday urged the Centre to confer the Bharat Ratna upon Pingali Venkaiah who designed the National Flag, posthumously.
He also felicitated Ghantasala Sitamahalakshmi, daughter of late Venkaiah, marking the inauguration of the 75-week-long Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav in the state.
The Chief Minister presented Rs 75 lakh to Sitamahalakshmi and wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting that the Centre confer the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna on Venkaiah posthumously.
Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav celebration is a central government initiative to mark 75 years of Independence. ....

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy interacted with the nonagenarian daughter and the descendants of the designer of the Indian flag, Pingali Venkaiah. The state government on Friday doled out financial assistance of Rs 75 lakh to Venkaiah’s daughter, Ghantasala Sita Mahalakshmi.
“The government hereby sanctions an amount of Rs 75 lakh as financial assistance to Ghantasala Sita Mahalakshmi, the daughter of Pingali Venkaiah, under the culture department’s head of account,” said an official.
The development comes as good news for 99-year-old Mahalakshmi, who is struggling to talk and is in a feeble condition, on the very same day when Reddy sought the highest civilian award in the country, the Bharat Ratna (posthumous), for Venkaiah. ....

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday requested the Centre to confer Bharat Ratna the highest civilian award upon Pingali Venkaiah, for his untiring efforts in designing the Indian flag that largely remained unrecognized.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahostsav’, chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy noted Venkaiah’s immense contribution towards making of Indian flag. “Having seen the effect of a common national flag on the mind and psyche of people, he decided to undertake a scientific study of different flags across the world,” Jagan mentioned. ....
