amit shah: MP/MLA court forwards defamation case against Amit Shah to metropolitan magistrate court

Hearing both the parties, the special judge directed that the matter be sent to the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Kolkata since the addresses were beyond the MP/MLA court s jurisdiction.
A designated MP/MLA court on Monday forwarded a case of defamation brought against Union Home Minister Amit Shah by Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee to the Metropolitan Magistrate Court here over jurisdiction issues. The court, which had issued summons to Shah to either appear personally or through a counsel on Monday, took note of his lawyer Brajesh Jha s submission that the address of the home minister mentioned in those was incorrect. ....

KOLKATA: A Bidhannagar special court hearing cases against MPs and MLAs has issued summons to Union home minister Amit Shahseeking his appearance in court at 10am on February 22 in a 2018 criminal defamation case filed by Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee. Advocate Brajesh Jha, also BJP legal cell’s co-convener, said:
“We are looking at the legal aspects of the court order. We will take legal recourse.” The special court had in August 2018 taken cognisance of the complaint, filed under IPC Section 500 for criminal defamation. Banerjee had moved court after Shah had levelled several charges against him in an August 2018 “Yuva Swabhiman Samavesh Rally”. Banerjee’s lawyer, Sanjay Basu, said the summons was issued on Friday. ....

Ponzi case: CBI arrests wife of Rose Valley boss | India News

KOLKATA: The CBI arrested on Friday Subhra Kundu, wife of Rose Valley group boss Gautam Kundu and former “employee” of the group’s jewellery business arm, Adrija Gold & Diamond, from her South Kolkata home.
The CBI said she was arrested because of her contradictory statements. A team of the agency’s officers arrived at her home at 10 am and questioned her for three hours.
Subhra was later taken to the agency’s CGO Complex office. She will be produced in a Bidhannagar court on Saturday and taken to Odisha, where the Ponzi case against Rose Valley was registered.
