CANBERRA, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) Wild buffalo numbers in Australia s Northern Territory (NT) are out of control and could pose a threat to native species, an expert has warned.
According to a survey conducted by Territory Natural Resource Management (TNRM) the number of buffalo in the NT increased by 26,000, or 17 percent, to an estimated 187,000 in the last 12 months.
It comes as more land owners in the NT choose to muster buffalo for commercial gain rather than cull them.
It is a long-term increase and there does not seem to be a way to keep up with it, to be honest, Susanne Casanova, a TNRM project officer and agricultural scientist, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) on Wednesday. ....
