Kamla: Does NCRHA have legal authority over Couva Hospital?

The Opposition Leader is calling on the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) to clarify the legal basis under which it has the authority to manage the Couva Hospital.
She asked whether the decisions being taken by the management of the NCRHA with respect to the hospital are beyond its legal authority.
The hospital is currently being used to treat covid19 patients.
There are have been heated disputes between doctors and the NCRHA, which had rotated doctors out out of the hospital. The authority has argued both that the medical chief of staff had requested the move, and that patient outcomes had improved as a result. ....

The Vitalité Health Network is reiterating the importance of Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC, as a Francophone health care institution.
Finding a viable solution to the cracks in New Brunswick’s healthcare system has brought the Dumont under a microscope after ambulances were diverted from the facility due to nurse shortages.
While there have been public statements suggesting that Vitalité and Horizon health Network find ways to collaborate, the former fears this could compromise its mission.
In a news release, Dr. France Desrosiers, President and CEO of the Network, stated “It is imperative that the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC continue its mission as a Francophone university hospital centre. Any solution to the current human resources challenges must not come at the expense of this mission.” ....
