Severe rainstorm hits Akyem Oda, causes extensive damage

A rainstorm which hit Akyem Oda in the Birim Central Municipality in the Eastern Region last Monday and destroyed more than 300 dwellings, as well as buildings belonging to 10 educational institutions, has been described as the worst to hit the municipality in recent times.
The rainstorm lasted about two hours, following which over 1,000 people were rendered homeless and property worth millions of cedis destroyed.
Among items destroyed were clothing, television sets, gas cookers, musical instruments, refrigerators, electric fans, furniture, mattresses, books and computers.
Others were school registers and log books, electric poles and cables and metal containers. ....

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Oda Constituency in the Eastern Region,Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has assured his constituents he willensure effective and efficient grass roots participation to accelerate socioeconomic development of the Constituency.
He explained that without such an agenda socioeconomic development could not be accelerated to improve livelihoods.
Mr Acquah made this known as part of a strategic means to reach out to the people for effective and efficient participation in socioeconomic development when he inaugurated seven committees for the area.
The committees, among other issues, are to help, support and assist the MP successfully execute his duties and regularly touch base with the grassroots for effective and efficient decision-making. ....

Akim Oda MP Unveils Strategy For Effective Grassroots Inclusion In Development

As part of a strategic means to reach out to the people for effective participation in development, Mr Alexandar Akwasi Acquah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Oda Constituency, has inaugurated seven committees in the area.
The committees, among other things, are to help the lawmaker successfully execute his duties and regularly touch base with the grassroots for effective decision-making.
They include; Finance, Project and Infrastructure, Education, Employment and Social Welfare, Health, Institutional and Public Relations, and Special Development Committee.
Speaking at the committees’ inauguration at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region, Mr Acquah said he would create an office space for the committees to operate and also receive concerns of constituents irrespective of their political affiliations. ....
