Cough up: More paid parking at Coast tourist hotspot

A council spokesperson said the introduction of paid parking in both sections of the Brisbane Rd site was endorsed at its December meeting.
In mid-2020, a decision was made to retain the temporary at-grade car park fronting Brisbane Road until future development, they said.
Last year council signed a binding development agreement with KPAT Property for the delivery of a 160-room, fully serviced hotel at the site of the ground-level car park.
In December KPAT Property owner and founder Kenneth Wagner said he hoped a development application would be lodged by April and for construction to start in the second half of 2022. ....

Drivers snub new $18m Coast carpark

Council did not confirm to the
Daily how many cars parked in the facility last week.
Mooloolaba residents of 16 years Phil and Jill Sickling visit the beach most days and said they wouldn t use the new car park.
Not if we have to pay for it … we would search the streets instead, Mr Sickling said.
They spend between two and three hours at the beachfront almost everyday and could not justify the $7 it would cost to park.
Mr Sickling said he didn t agree with the council s decision and was disappointed the community did not have more of a say.
Residents weren t asked if they wanted council to spend $18 million on a car park, and then be charged to use it, he said. ....
