Central Visayas police on alert as 'Auring' approaches – Manila Bulletin

CEBU CITY – The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) has been placed on alert due to the possible effects of tropical storm “Auring.”
Police Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo, chief of PRO 7, has instructed police stations in the region to prepare their search and rescue equipment for any eventualities.
Police Col. Aladdin Collado, chief of the Cebu provincial police, said they have already coordinated with the crisis response section of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion for the deployment of personnel in northern Cebu which was expected to be affected by Auring Sunday.
“We already alerted most of the towns in the northern part of Cebu and in fact the whole province,” said Collado. ....

MANILA – A Muntinlupa court on Wednesday dismissed the demurrer to evidence filed by counsels of detained Senator Leila de Lima and her former aide Ronnie Dayan seeking to dismiss the drug charges against them.
In an omnibus order, Muntinlupa RTC Branch 205 Judge Liezel Aquiatan also denied the grant of bail for de Lima and Dayan in Criminal Case No. 17-165.
“The separate demurrers to evidence of accused Leila de Lima and Ronnie Dayan are both denied. The petition for bail filed by accused de Lima and Dayan are likewise denied,” Aquiatan said. ....

MNLF declares Abu Sayyaf bandits persona non-grata

THE base commanders of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) under commander Ali Julkipli of Kalingalan Caluang, Sulu has declared the Abu Sayyaf bandits as persona non-grata in all of its camps and communities in the town.
The declaration is contained in a peace covenant Julkipli and his base commanders signed together with the Marine Battalion Landing Team-7 (MBLT-7) in a ceremony Tuesday, January 19, at the MBLT-7 headquarters in Karungdong village, Kalingalan Caluang.
Colonel Hernanie Songano, 4th Marine Brigade commander, presided the activity.
Lieutenant Colonel Eduard Olaso, MBLT-7 commander, said in a statement that the denouncement of the MNLF against the presence of Abu Sayyaf bandits in their respective camps and communities is a clear manifestation that MNLF, as Peace Inclined Armed Groups (PIAG), is one with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in establishing and maintaining peace and order in Kalingalan Caluang ....

Police Kill 5 Suspected IS-linked Militants in Southern Philippines

Five suspected members of an Islamic State-linked Filipino militant group, including a senior lieutenant to its leader, were killed during separate raids by government security forces in the southern Philippines on Thursday, police said.
One of the Ansar al-Khilafah Philippines (AKP) suspects, identified as Kamarudin Sante, 43, was killed in a shootout with police as he resisted arrest during an early morning operation in Polomolok, a town in South Cotabato province, authorities said.
Sante (also known as Abu), was a senior lieutenant of Mohammad Jaafar Maguid (alias Commander Tokboy), the founder and leader of the pro-Islamic State AKP who was killed in 2017. ....

Charges eyed vs hotel for withholding names of room 2207 occupants

NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Vicente Danao Jr. said on Monday, January 11, 2021, warned that charges will be filed against the City Garden Grand Hotel in Makati City if the management continues to withhold the names of the occupants of Room 2207 on the night of Christine Dacera’s death.
Danao said they have yet to get the names of at least five individuals, although they have already discerned their faces.
“We will be looking at the violation committed by the hotel management lalong lalo na for not divulging immediately the names of those who booked sa room 2209 and 2207. If you refuse to cooperate we will file a case of obstruction of justice sa inyo, for withholding information which is very vital for the early solution of the case,” he said in an interview in Camp Crame. ....
