Algeria s Mustapha Berraf has been re-elected as President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) after defeating challenger Lydia Nsekera in today s election at the organisation s General Assembly in Cairo.
Berraf, an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member who became President in 2018, will serve a second four-year term.
He was re-elected with 38 votes as Burundi s Nsekera tallied 15.
Both candidates stood for the position in 2018 too, which ended with Berraf winning by 34 votes to 20.
The Algerian succeeded long-serving Ivorian President Lassana Palenfo, who spent 13 years at the helm and was first elected in 2005. ....

The President of the Burundi National Olympic Committee (BNOC) Lydia Nsekera has released her manifesto for the Presidency of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), after announcing in March her intention to run for the position.
Also a member of the International Olympic Committee, Nsekera looks to succeed Algeria’s Mustapha Berraf, following her defeat in the 2018 election, losing in the second round by 34 votes to 20.
In her manifesto, Nsekera has vowed to restore the image of ANOCA, stating that achievements made in recent years have not been adequate enough for the governing body. ....

Nsekera re-elected unopposed as Burundi National Olympic Committee President
Lydia Nsekera has been re-elected unanimously as President of the Burundi National Olympic Committee (BNOC).
Nsekera was the sole candidate standing in the election, which took place at the organisation’s General Assembly in Bujumbura.
She received all 54 votes cast to secure a second four-year term in office, having led the organisation since 2017.
This proves that the programme that we presented during the term of office which is ending was appreciated and it is very important for us because our partners have just shown us their unwavering support,” said Nsekera, an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member. ....
