ELY, Minn.– Ely’s Blueberry/Art Festival is canceled due to severe storm damage, after returning from an off year last year.
Some images from the Festival on Friday night, taken by Ryan Tischer of Duluth’s Tischer Art Gallery who had a booth there, show the extent of the damage.
A severe thunderstorm bringing 60 to 70 mile per hour winds blew through Whiteside Park, knocking down trees, power lines, and ultimately destroying many of the tents and booths of vendors there for the event.
Eva Sebesta, Executive Director of Ely’s Chamber of Commerce, says about 220 booths were scheduled to be at the event. ....

Storm rips through Blueberry Art Festival, forces cancellation of remainder of event

ELY The Ely Blueberry Art Festival was devastated Friday by a fast-moving storm with 60-70 mph winds roared through Whiteside Park, according to published media reports.
Duluth television station WDIO is also reporting the remainder of the festival was canceled due to the damage suffered by numerous vendors.
Around 9:15 p.m. Friday night, Ely Police Chief Chad Houde confirmed the event was being canceled. âDue to the severe storm damage in the Ely area and destruction of many of the Blueberry Arts vendors booths, the Ely Chamber of Commerce has made the decision to cancel the remainder of the Blueberry Festival.ââ ....
