Slain female aid workers belonged to poor families in Bannu

BANNU: The four women, including two sisters, who were gunned down in North Waziristan on Monday worked for a non-governmental organisation to impart vocational training to needy women.
The slain women belonged to poor families in Bannu district and were getting Rs1,000 only per day.
They were hired by the Bravo College of Technology, Peshawar, which had made an arrangement with an NGO, Sabawoon, to impart sewing and embroidery skills to local women in North Waziristan.
“The women worked for 16 days a month for the three-month project “Women Empowerment.” It was going to be completed on February 24 when the gory incident took place,” said a relative of the slain workers. ....

Poor people hit by 'alarming' decline in free cash machines


Which? has called for a clear blueprint on the future of cash, and wants the Government to ensure access to paper money. Gareth Shaw, head of money, said: Everyone should have reasonable access to their own money without having to pay.Yet our research shows free cash machines are vanishing at an alarming rate - often in areas where people need them most.
ATMs are only one piece of the jigsaw - the Government needs to swiftly set out its plans for the future of cash.
He said legislation was required so the industry and regulators can work with the Government to ensure cash is protected as a form of payment for those who have no other option. ....

Five years ago to the day, Pravin Gordhan presented his budget. In the wake of the “weekend special” debacle of December 2015 capital markets were jittery, with yields on 10-year government bonds peaking at just more than 10%. In March 2020 yields breached the 12% mark. Even in 2016 debt service costs (at 12c of every rand spent) were a big concern.
