Joshua Borland Joshua was born and raised in Punta Gorda Town in Southern Belize. Growing up, he was surrounded by nature, with the beautiful Caribbean Sea in his front yard and the majestic Maya Mountains in his backyard. His passion for the environment grew over time, which led him to pursue a BSc. in Natural Resources Management from the University of Belize. While pursuing his degree, he volunteered with different organizations such as Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) and the University of Belize Environmental Research Institute (UB ERI) as a community researcher. He later obtained his Dive Master certification which allowed him to further venture off into Marine Conservation. In 2017, he joined Projects Abroad as the Project Coordinator and Field Scientist, where he worked with international students, training and teaching them different marine data collection methodologies. Dwayne Myers Dwayne Myers became the second victim of murder over the weekend when he was shot and killed inside his car in Punta Gorda Town, Toledo on Saturday, April 24. He became the municipality’s second murder victim in the span of two days, following the murder of Kevonn Wade, creating much concern among the residents of that normally calm Southern town. 49-year-old Myers had just parked near a bus stop when he was killed, just minutes before 8:00 p.m. Two persons on a motorcycle approached Myers and opened fire, resulting in multiple injuries to the body which would cost him his life. Police were called to the scene and encountered his bullet-riddled body inside the vehicle. He was transported to the Punta Gorda Community Hospital but died while undergoing treatment for his injuries. Police have since canvassed the scene and found two types of ammunition used in this murder. ....
Kobe Dyer Two persons were detained pending investigations in relation to a robbery which took place at Golden Motel Inn in Punta Gorda Town, Toledo on Monday, April 26. They have since been arrested and charged for the crime of aggravated burglary. Kimberly Monique Coye, a 22-year-old resident of Placencia Village, Stann Creek was inside a vehicle along with Kobe Stephan Dyer, a 23-year-old resident of Hattieville Village, Belize, when police, who were operating a vehicular checkpoint, found them with a prohibited .45mm firearm and items believed to have been stolen during the robbery. The incident took place at around 3:30 p.m. while Hsu Chui Pi-Chen, the 73-year-old business owner, was at the hotel. Pi- Chen reported that three persons, a woman and two men, entered the hotel and made demands for cash while pointing the firearm at Pi-Chen. The culprits proceeded to ransack the establishment, and made off with an undisclosed about of money, jewelry, and assorted beverages. Th ....
Kevonn Wade On the night of Thursday, April 22, a resident of Punta Gorda Town, Toledo was shot and killed as he sat on his verandah. Less than a week later, police believe that they have found the responsible party, a 16-year-old minor. That minor has since been arrested and charged for the crime of murder in the presence of a social worker. His victim, 37-year-old Kevonn Wade, was sitting on the verandah of his home located near Uno Gas Station on Main Street at around 7:30 p.m. when shots rang out, with residents recounting hearing the echoes of as many as six gunshots. In the aftermath, Wade, originally from the Western Paradise community located in the Belize District, lay motionless on the ground. Police were quick in their response, but despite their rapid reaction, the gunman had already fled the area and Wade was pronounced dead on arrival at the Punta Gorda Polyclinic.
