The monsoon is here and it brings trouble for residents. While many are unable to remain indoors due to water logging, many cannot come out of their homes due to flooded roads.
Residents are wondering, with worry, how they will manage things until the monsoon ends as despite many reminders, authorities have failed to improve their situation.
There are many areas in the city that are suffering due to water logging. In Doddabidarakallu, most roads are not asphalted and the mud turns into a slush with every spell of rain. “It can be argued that there is no need to come out of the house during a lockdown. However, we need to venture out to buy essentials. During this, we have to walk on slushy, mud-filled roads, hoping that no heavy vehicles pass us, and splash silt on our clothes. These roads are worse, compared to even dirt tracks. We don’t even know when this will get solved,” said Rajappa S, a resident of Vinay ....

The plight of people residing in Banaswadi is a classic example of the perfunctory attitude of the
Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (
BWSSB) and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities, who compete among themselves in who can delay developmental work more.
Two years ago, the BWSSB had engaged a contractor to lay underground drainage pipes and Cauvery water pipes. The contractor took two years to complete the work, after which he left without restoring the road back to its original form. Now, the residents are running pillar to post to make this happen. ....

In a drive to weed out
illegal water connections in the city, the
Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (
BWSSB) has so far identified and disconnected 64,568
such connections.
According to BWSSB officials, many households and apartments were illegally using the water connection without paying money. This had resulted in twin losses for the water board. Apart from pilferage, this had amounted to huge financial losses as well. To curb the menace, BWSSB has decided to find all such connections.
With no option but to regularise their water connection by paying a fine, around 25,000 houses (whose water connections were disconnected) have regularised their connections now. ....
