Matriculation students allegedly slapped with RM1,500 fines, Health DG says investigation ongoing

Thanks for the complaint made to the Health Ministry.
Actions will be taken immediately, he said in reply to Twitter user @NabilAmirul4, who shared a picture of the incident on Monday (April 19).
According to @NabilAmirul4, the students have been confined to their colleges for an entire semester due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The incident is believed to have occurred at the Perak Matriculation College in Gopeng.
The post has been retweeted about 30,000 times.
There was also plenty of furore on Twitter, with many users deeming the incident unfair. ....

KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 The Perak Health Department has launched an immediate investigation into the recent fines meted out to several matriculation students in the state.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah thanked the public for alerting the ministry.
“Action will be taken as quickly as possible, God willing,” he said on Twitter.  ....

Matriculation students compounded for not wearing masks can still appeal

GAJAH: There was no element of unfair treatment against six students of the Perak Matriculation College in Gopeng who were compounded RM1,500 each by the Ministry of Health (MOH) for not wearing face masks yesterday.
State Health, Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Mohd Akmal Kamarudin said the MOH officers issuing the compound were only carrying out their duties to ensure standard operating procedures (SOPs) were complied with to check the spread of Covid-19.
He said the students could still make an appeal to reduce the compounds and the state government was confident the students would be able to settle them. ....
