PASD TO DISTRIBUTE FREE MEALS THIS SUMMER

The Punxsutawney Area School District plans to distribute free meals through its summer food service program starting June 7 through August 18.
According to the Punxsy Spirit, A breakfast and lunch will be provided each day on a first-come, first-serve basis. Families and caregivers can pickup meals for any child age 18 years old and younger Monday through Friday at several location in Punxsutawney and the surrounding areas.
Meals will not be distributed July 5.

A Punxsutawney woman has been charged with theft about a year and a half after a state police forensic unit raided the Big Run War Memorial in Jefferson County, officials say.
According to charges filed by state police last week, 67-year-old Bonita Haugh is accused of stealing from Big Run Borough funds by writing out an “inordinate” amount of checks for cash, then lying about it.
Troopers say their investigation began in June of 2019, but the thefts had been occurring since July of 2015.
According to state police, troopers interviewed Haugh in Oct., 2019, during which time Haugh made inconsistent statements which led to her eventually confessing to stealing from the Big Run War Memorial Fund. ....

A former Big Run Borough Council member has reportedly confessed to stealing $5,000 from the Big Run War Memorial Fund.
The Punxsy Spirit reports that 67-year-old Bonita “Bonnie” Kay Haugh of Punxsutawney is facing one felony count of theft by deception. Haugh is accused of intentionally obtaining or withholding property and misappropriating checks belonging to the Big Run War Memorial Fund over a period of several years after an investigation that began in 2019.
A preliminary hearing is set for May 25.

Police say a Punxsutawney woman was injured in a crash that occurred in Pine Township of Jefferson County last week. ....
