The Bangladesh Bank yesterday withdrew its executive director Shah Alam from the responsibility of monitoring two departments for his alleged connection with scammer PK Halder.
Shah Alam was discharged of his duties at the central bank s Department of Financial Institutions and Markets (DFIM) and the Department of Banking Inspection 2.
The high-ups of the BB took the decision after Rashedul Haque, a close associate of PK Hader, confessed to a Dhaka court that two high officials of the BB had assisted them to conduct the financial scams. ....

A Dhaka court yesterday dismissed a defamation case filed against former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon over making defamatory comments on incumbent Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah passed the order as he did not find sufficient grounds to accept the case lodged by one Kazi Anisur Rahman, court sources said.
The same magistrate also granted a petition for withdrawing another defamation case filed against Khokon yesterday after lawyer Sarwar Alam, also the complainant, submitted a petition with the court to this end. ....

After photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol was found near the Indian border in the middle of the night 53 days after his disappearance, his family thought he would be coming home soon.
Kajol s son went to Jashore to bring him, while his wife and daughter waited in Dhaka.
Then as the day progressed, the photojournalist was suddenly whisked off to jail, under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). The police informed the court that he was being arrested since he was facing three cases under the Digital Security Act (DSA) filed separately by a lawmaker and two activists of Jubo Mahila League. ....
