New Zealanders To Commemorate Anzac Day In Person

Monday, 19 April 2021, 3:44 pm
After a disrupted 2020, New Zealanders will be able to
gather in public to commemorate Anzac Day this
Sunday.
Last year, for the first time since Anzac
services began in 1916, New Zealanders were not able to
gather at public services and war memorials to mark this
significant day of remembrance. Instead, people tuned in
virtually to the day’s events.
We’re really
grateful that communities across Aotearoa will be able to
gather together again on this day of remembrance , said
Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage Chief
Executive Bernadette Cavanagh.
The traditional events
will take place as usual this year, beginning with the Dawn ....

Radio New Zealand’s plan to defenestrate its Concert FM
classical music network, stillborn and hastily withdrawn at
the start of last year, was the surprisingly mute elephant
in the middle of the select committee room when the public
radio broadcaster’s chairman and chief executive turned up
at Parliament for this year’s annual financial
review.
Contained within the Trojan Horse of a new
youth-oriented music strategy, the plan would have taken the
concert programme off its dedicated national FM network and
replaced it with a “brand” or “platform” targeted at
18-34-year-olds. It was met by angry protests from ....

Prime Minister Led Move That Will Lead To Desecration Of Mataharehare - "It's A Rich Man's Game" Says Dame

Wednesday, 3 March 2021, 12:45 pm
The decision where to place the Erebus National Memorial
has been led by the Prime Minister – despite push back
from the community, Erebus family members, Local Board, NZ
Heritage Trust and Māori leadership.
On Sunday, Dame
Naida Glavish sent a letter outlining her concern about the
‘integrity of process’ to Ms Ardern, Hon Grant
Robertson, Hon Andrew Little, Hon Carmel Sepuloni, Hon Kiri
Allan, and Hon Nanaia Mahuta.
The letter said
“communication with local iwi has been unclear and not
inclusive. All the facts have not been at hand to make a
proper and informed decision.” ....
