Private schools must use NCERT books, orders Edu Directorate

Ambala, May 10
While parents have hailed a recent order issued by the Directorate, School Education, Haryana, asking private schools to ensure that only NCERT books are used, the private schools have decided to challenge the order in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Ajay Gupta, president, Parents Welfare Association, Ambala, said, “Several schools recommend particular books, available at selected shops, to students that were being sold at exorbitant rates due to the nexus between the school authorities and private publishers. We welcome the order issued by the directorate and the department should implement the orders strictly.”
Objecting to the order, Saurabh Kapoor, president, Integrated Private School Welfare Society, said “It is unrealistic to recommend NCERT books only. Quality of the content and low availability of NCERT books are the prime reason behind the private schools using books of private publishers. The books are selected by the principals on the ....

Seats sought in private colleges
The Pondicherry State Students and Parents Welfare Association has urged the government to approach the Madras High Court for an early hearing in the case seeking 50% seats in MBBS course under the government quota in three private medical colleges, given the little time left for concluding the counselling process.
Association president V. Bala Balasubramanian said even though the stated position of the government was that 50% reservation under the government quota would be implemented in three private medical colleges, it was unfortunate that when the case filed by a student was taken up for hearing by the Madras High Court, the government lawyers did not request for an early hearing. ....

Plea to put off result of MBBS second-round counselling

‘HC likely rule on petition on wrong allotment’
The Pondicherry State Students and Parents’ Welfare Association has demanded that the publication of the result of the second round of counselling for admission to MBBS be deferred until the Madras High Court ruled on a petition against the Medical Counselling Committee on a wrong allotment of seats at JIPMER.
In a memorandum to Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi, association president V. Bala Balasubramanian said the petition was likely to be taken up for orders in a day or two. As the National Medical Commission had extended the last date of admission to January 15, leaving sufficient time for the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) to conduct the second-round and mop-up counselling, the association urged the Lt. Governor to direct CENTAC to defer the publication of the result. ....

The Pondicherry State Students and Parents Welfare Association has called for withholding the counselling for admission to about 60 MBBS seats until the judiciary rules on an appeal proposed to be filed by the government against the recent Madras High Court ruling against reserving 50% seats for State quota in private self financing medical colleges.
In an appeal to Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, V. Bala Balasubramanian, the Association president sought expediting the process of appeal as the High Court was expected to close for vacation from December 21.
The Association said going by the seat matrix and the break-up of management (281 seats) and government (169 seats) quotas in three private medical colleges, admission to a pool of about 60 seats could be put on hold pending a court order. ....
