Belgrade levies pass

Superintendent Godfrey Saunders described himself as âecstaticâ about the passage of the Belgrade School Districtâs three levies this week.
âItâs the kind of effort that brings tears to your eyes when it pays off in the end,â Saunders said of the public outreach campaign undertaken by district administrators, teachers, staff members, students, and community members in the weeks leading up to the election.
âI felt confident that we had done a good job of articulating our needs, why we needed what we were asking for, what we planned to do with it, and how it would benefit us, but you never know until the votes are in what the outcomes are going to be,â Saunders told the Belgrade News Wednesday morning. ....

Library bond may go to voters in fall

A bond issue proposal for construction of a new library and community center on Main Street in Belgrade will likely go to voters in September, pending City Council approval.
Last August, the council approved a plan â contingent upon a voter support â to raze the old fire station at the southwest corner of Lewis and Clark Park and construct a new building on the site for a library and community center. Preliminary design work, funded by the Belgrade Community Library Foundation, is underway, as is the Foundationâs private fund drive.
Funding for the remaining portion of the project would come from taxpayers in the form of a bond issue. City Manager Ted Barkley told the council Tuesday that staff has settled on mid-September as the best date for a measure to appear on the ballot. ....
