Women farmers in Fiji earn 25 per cent less than their male counterparts.
This, according to the Food and Agriculture (FAO) 2019 Gender Assessment Fiji, which is part of the 2020 Biennial Pacific Sustainable Development Report that was launched on December 9.
“A significant proportion of informal agricultural workers and farmers in the Pacific are women, where significant disparities exist.
“The FAO reports a significant gap in rural women’s and men’s farmers’ income in Fiji whereby informal work exacerbates vulnerability due to lack of safety nets or entitlements, including leave, insurance or pensions,” the report read. ....
