A Yeppoon criminal who was charged for possessing a loaded handgun and trafficking illicit drugs has had his appeal to overturn the charges denied.
Jak Quinn Swayn accused police of conducting an “unlawful search” of his vehicle, from which evidence was used in a trial.
Swayn was charged with one count of trafficking methylamphetamine, one count of supplying a handgun, one count of possession of methylamphetamine in a quantity exceeding two grams and one count of possession of a handgun in a public place.
The charges arose from a police search of a vehicle Swayn was driving late on May 31 2020 in Brisbane. ....

Queensland is the only state in Australia where public drunkenness remains a crime despite a royal commission recommending it be abolished 30 years ago.
A landmark report borne out of the 1991 Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody made hundreds of recommendations, with a key suggestion being the removal of laws allowing police to lock an individual behind bars for intoxication.
