Fetes need 'safety net' – NationNews Barbados — nationnews.com

Social Share
Special insurance may be necessary for party promoters and producers hoping to stage events, says president of the Entertainment Association of Barbados (EAB), Rudy Maloney.
That type of safety net, he adds, may be needed as it becomes more challenging to host events as the dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to change rapidly.
Maloney said this was in light of the reintroduction of the daily 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew, as well as restrictions on social gatherings and fetes following a recent spike in COVID-19 cases.
“The industry understands that the health of Barbadians and visitors is of utmost importance, but one of the things we discussed [recently] is that this makes it difficult to plan events. Events can be held at any time but the majority of events are held at night and people come out at night, but we are under curfew again. ....

Entertainment groups have their say on Crop Over, fetes
Article by
As entertainers await word from Government on what this year’s
Crop Over season and fetes in general are to look like, two umbrella groups representing different segments of the industry have put forward several recommendations to the National Cultural Foundation (NCF).
The recommendations were recently submitted to the NCF on what they believe future events could possibly look like, the entertainment bodies told a panel discussion.
The development comes amid an industry call for greater unity to aid in their representation efforts and uncertainty over what role vaccination against the COVID-19 virus will play in the hosting of entertainment functions. ....

Unified approach needed for revival of entertainment sector

Some of the panelists as they discussed “The State of the Events Industry – Barbados and the Caribbean” hosted by the Barbados Coalition of Services Industries (BCSI) on May 6, 2021
Key stakeholders in the local entertainment industry are calling for players to unite and explore the way forward as the industry remains frozen by COVID-19 restrictions.
“The industry cannot remain frozen. There are simply too many livelihoods dependent on the sustenance provided by the multiplicity of jobs associated with the industry,” Chief Executive Officer of Pyramid Entertainment Management Inc. Ruel Ward stated emphatically last Thursday night (May 6), while contributing during an online panel discussion hosted by the Barbados Coalition of Services Industries (BCSI). ....

The Bajan Reporter | JOINT STATEMENT REGARDING COVID-19 SURGE & BARBADOS' ENTERTAINMENT SECTOR

by Bajan Reporter / January 14th, 2021
The following is an official joint statement issued by The Barbados Association of Event Professionals (
BAEP) and the Entertainment Association of Barbados (
EAB). The
EAB and the
BAEP together represent the wide cross- section of people who work directly and indirectly in the creative economy, that is, the arts, events and entertainment sector.
In light of the national dialogue surrounding recent events in the island, we deem it both prudent and obligatory for the events and entertainment industry to articulate our position. We in no way endorse the staging of social activities which are not sanctioned by the Covid-19 Monitoring Unit or that fail to ensure that patrons follow the Covid-19 Event protocols. Indeed, as key economic stakeholders, we have painstakingly worked with the Unit in the development and dissemination of events protocol since July 2020, encouraging our members to comply with safety regulations. ....
