Construction has begun on a new 36-unit apartment complex for the elderly in Dupont, at the site of the vacant Ben Franklin School, 611 Walnut St. The units will include four fully accessible handicapped units and one apartment designed for hearing/sight impaired. The announcement was made by Michael Molitoris, executive director of the Housing Authority of Luzerne County, developer, and Dupont Housing for the Elderly, LP, owner. The project is designed to provide affordable housing to low-income seniors at 60% or below the area median income. Construction is projected to be completed in December 2021.
