Health Unit's vaccine roll-out underway; not yet in Haliburton

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Health Unit’s (HKPR) top doctor expects to get more of the Moderna vaccine next week.
In the first shipment of vaccines, Gemmill says it will allow them to vaccinate “just under half” of long-term care residents. When the next shipment comes in next week, he believes that will allow them to vaccinate everyone else. He said they will run into a problem after that though due to the delay in Canada getting the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Despite HKPR using the Moderna vaccine, he says the delay will affect them. “Everyone is in a scramble to readjust,” he said. ....

Two cases of COVID-19 reported by Health, one in Haliburton

With only two new COVID-19 cases reported by the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Health Unit (HKPR) Wednesday, its top doctor is sending out an optimistic message.
One of the new cases is in Haliburton. It puts the local active case count at five.
HKPR’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Gemmill says he looks at the virus like “water coming out of a hose.” In the winter, it spreads easier. “It’s like someone turned on the virus hose,” he says. With the stay-at-home order put in place by the province, he says that helps keep the water from spraying all over the place. “We’ve got our thumb over the end (of the hose) and I think those restrictions – which is our thumb over the hose – is doing something,” Gemmill says. ....

New outbreak announced by HPE Public Health

There are now 45 active cases of COVID-19 in Hastings Prince Edward as two new cases were confirmed today.
Both new cases were transmitted through close contact.
The HPE Public Health Unit says there have been six recoveries while one person remains in hospital.
A new outbreak was also declared by the health unit at Seasons Dufferin Centre in Quinte West.
The long term care centre has one case confirmed so far.
The seven day case rate per 100,000 is sitting at 23.1.
There are 20 cases in Belleville, 15 in Quinte West, five in Prince Edward County, four in Tyendinaga and Deseronto and one in Central Hastings. ....
