As demand drops, BSL curtails O2 supply to 11 states | Ranchi News

Bokaro: As Covid-19 cases have reduced considerably throughout the country and the demand for oxygen has gone down, the Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL) has curtailed its supply of liquid medical oxygen to 11 states. BSL’s chief of communication Manikant Dhan said, “BSL had supplied 7,375 MT of liquid medical oxygen to 11 states when the second wave of the pandemic was at its peak in May. But now the demand has gone down and last month, BSL had to supply only 601MT of oxygen to three states Bihar (105 MT), Uttar Pradesh (210 MT) and Madhya Pradesh (80 MT).” Upon directives of the Union ministry of steel, all the five units of Steel Authority of India Limited had diverted their liquid oxygen for medical use. BSL had to supply oxygen to Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Vedanta’s ESL will set up a 100-bed field hospital equipped with oxygen supply on the Library Ground premises. Owned by the BSL, the 16 acre ground in Sector -5 has been acquired by the district administration under sections of the Disaster Management Act of 2005 for Covid-19 care and management. BOKARO: The managements of Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL) and Vedanta ESL Steel Limited (VSL) were directed to set up separate jumbo field hospitals to treat Covid-19 patients. BSL, a public sector unit of the Steel Authority of India Limited, has begun the process of commissioning a 500-bed field hospital in an open field near the main gate of its plant. A 50-bed temporary hospital is also being set up at the banquet hall of its human resource department. Oxygen at these two temporary hospitals will be supplied from the respective plants through dedicated pipelines.

Bokaro: The district’s biggest Covid hospital, Bokaro General Hospital (BGH), is not reporting the death toll of patients to the IDSP section of the district health department, officials in the administration said expressing concern. From April 25 to April 28, BGH has not sent the report of deaths to the IDSP. Bokaro civil surgeon Dr A K Pathak said, “We are looking into this matter.” According to sources, district health department had given BGH a format to provide information related to Covid deaths but BGH management is taking it lightly. Bokaro deputy commissioner Rajesh Singh said, “The district administration will look into the matter and ask BGH to provide actual information of deaths of patients to the IDSP.”
