Public can help with backlog at vehicle licensing centre

GEORGE NEWS - The effect of Covid-19 on staff numbers and logistics are among various factors causing the number of vehicle licences that require renewal to pile up at the George vehicle licensing centre, creating a perpetual backlog .
This is according to the George Municipality that issued a statement in response to frustration among the public about the hours-long waiting in queues outside the gate at the centre.
In the statement, the municipality appealed to help relieve the pressure by applying for renewals online.
However, registration of vehicles cannot be done online, and a waiting game is then unavoidable, as Wilderness resident Chris Leggatt found when he accompanied his son to register his first vehicle. ....

GEORGE NEWS - Notice was received from George Municipality that while George Municipality general offices are closed for the Christmas holidays, the George Vehicle Licence Centre, Driving Licence Centre and Vehicle Testing Station will be open as below, unless otherwise announced as per Covid-19 measures:
Thursday 24 December: 8am-12pm (intake until 11am to allow for processing)
Friday 25 December to Sunday 27 December: CLOSED
Monday 28 December to Wednesday 30 December: 8am-3pm
Thursday 31 December: 8am-12pm (intake until 11am to allow for processing)
Friday 1 January to Sunday 3 January: CLOSED
Traffic Department Offices, Driving and Learners Licences:
Mission Street, Pacaltsdorp 044 878 2400. The department is open for new appointments for driving and learner’s licences as per usual rules (see Driving and Learners Licence section on website for details). ....
