Helping V/Line Deliver Better Regional Services

The Victorian Government is taking action to ensure V/Line is set up to deliver better services for fast growing regional communities.
V/Line is Australia’s fastest growing regional railway operator, with a 77 per cent increase in annual passenger numbers from 13 million in 2014 to 23 million before the pandemic in 2019.
The Government has responded to this growth through record investment – adding 700 additional weekly services since 2014, investing $1.2 billion in new regional trains and supporting an upgrade of every regional rail line.
This funding boost continues through the
Victorian Budget 2021/22, with a further investment of $613 million over four years in major periodic and routine maintenance on V/Line’s passenger and freight lines. ....

Building Works Continues With Train Maintenance Blitz

Trains have returned to the Ballarat line following an 11-day maintenance blitz featuring infrastructure renewals as part of works to support Victoria’s economic recovery.
The crucial upgrades to the bridge over Ironbark Road, Ingliston and Melton Station were completed during the works as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s $328.4 million investment in critical public transport and roads maintenance and upgrades.
The 81-year-old rail bridge in Ingliston was upgraded with improved drainage, strengthened trestles and new restraint blocks, reducing the risk of infrastructure faults which can cause delays to services.
At Melton Station, crews ramped up the upgrade works which started in March, with a focus on the new entrance, seats and shelters on platform one, along with works on the platform surface. ....

Driving Towards A Zero Emissions Vehicle Future

The Andrews Labor Government will introduce a $3,000 subsidy for new Zero Emissions Vehicles (ZEV) as a part of our comprehensive plan to meet our target of net zero emissions by 2050 and support new jobs.
An unprecedented $100 million package will make ZEVs more affordable, build charging infrastructure and achieve more ZEVs in government and commercial fleets.
The subsidy will be available for more than 20,000 new ZEV purchases from Sunday, 2 May 2021. Subsidies will be available in stages, with an initial 4,000 spots. Further stages will be announced as the program progresses.
The Labor Government is also introducing a 2030 target that will see half of all new car sales be ZEVs. An expert advisory panel will be established to advise the Government on policies, programs and infrastructure required to ensure we meet our 50 per cent target by 2030. ....

Lara Station Upgrades To Get Underway

Minister for Public TransportBen Carrollsaid the first stage of the program of works were part of the government’s $328.4 million investment in critical public transport and roads maintenance and upgrades.
Lara is one of 16 key stations, along with North Geelong and North Shore stations, to receive a share in a $24 million package to support jobs and deliver improved facilities for passengers along the Geelong corridor.
The works at Lara Station will be rolled out in stages and the initial works will involve a refurbishment of the station waiting room.
A team of six contractors will be working on site to deliver a fresh coat of paint for the waiting room and new carpet, to help make the precinct more inviting and comfortable for passengers. ....
