Counting of votes for Assam Assembly Polls is underway at two locations in Dibrugarh - Dibrugarh Government Boys Higher Secondary School and Deputy Commissioner Office of Dibrugarh.
The election schedule spread across four states and one Union Territory began on March 27 and continued till April 29.
The polling across Assam took place in three phases. The voting for the 126 constituencies in the state for the first phase in the state was held on March 27, the second on April 1, and the third phase was held on April 6.
Over the three phases, the main players, the BJP and Congress-led Mahajot have been made significant efforts to woo voters. ....

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said there will always be a challenge of identity in Assam and the people of the state will always have to fight for it.
As Assam will witness the third and last phase of Assam assembly elections, Sarma expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will undoubtedly form government in the state.

Jailed activist Akhil Gogoi to contest Assam election from Sibsagar


Jailed activist Akhil Gogoi will contest the upcoming elections in Assam from Sibsagar as a candidate of his newly-floated Raijor Dal.
Announcing the list of 17 candidates that the party fielded in the first two phases, Raijor Dal working president Bhasco De Saikia said that Gogoi, the party s president, will contest from the Sibsagar constituency in Upper Assam.
In the first phase, the party will contest in 12 seats but is yet to announce the candidate for one seat, and in the second phase, it has put up candidates in six constituencies.
We have decided to contest in only 17 seats with the intention of not dividing the votes so that the BJP is defeated and to ensure that there is an anti-CAA government in the state, Saikia said. ....

BJP announces 70 candidates for Assam polls; AGP to fight in 26 seats


The BJP on Friday released its first list of 70 candidates for the Assam assembly polls and announced that allies Asom Gana Parishad and United People s Party Liberal will contest on 26 and eight seats respectively.
The three-phased elections for the 126-member Assam assembly will be held on March 27, April 1 and April 6.
Party general secretary Arun Singh told a press conference that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will contest from the Majuli (ST) reserved constituency and state minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from Jalukbari.
The two seats are currently represented by the two top state BJP leaders in the assembly.
Assam BJP chief Ranjit Dass will contest the polls from Patacharkuchi instead of Sarbhog from where he won in the last elections. ....
