TAIPEI (Taiwan News) Transportation Minister Lin Chia-lung’s (林佳龍) resignation offer in the wake of the Hualien train derailment that killed 49 people has been accepted and will take effect on April 20, reports said Thursday (April 15).
After a truck rolled down a slope to end up on the tracks, a Taroko Express train was unable to break in time, leading to the deaths of 49 people, including the conductor, his deputy, and three foreign citizens, while more than 200 people were injured. The incident happened on the morning of April 2, at the beginning of a four-day holiday, when hundreds of people were traveling for vacation or to join their relatives. ....

TAIPEI - More body parts have been found when the crushed remains of the last carriage of a train that derailed on Taiwan s scenic east coast was finally pulled out from a tunnel at the crash site, almost a week after the accident.
The latest discovery of human remains late on Tuesday night (April 6) by workmen who lifted the eighth carriage of the 408 Taroko Express, which was sliced in half when it crashed headlong into the tunnel wall on April 2, led prosecutors to believe that the death toll could change. ....

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) President Tsai Ing-wen’s (蔡英文) comments on the April 2 Hualien train derailment which killed 50 people and injured more than 100 were “cold” and “abstract,” showing that she has it all wrong, prominent pollster Ying-lung You (游盈隆) said Thursday (April 8).
Regarding the train crash, the government has promised a thorough investigation followed by reform of the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA), while Transportation Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said he would take political responsibility and leave office. ....
