Bongaigaon police have started their operation against the illegal beetle nut trade.

BONGAIGAON: Bongaigaon police have started their operation against the illegal beetle nut trade. Yesterday Bongaigaon Police apprehended one person Md. Abdul Hannan Ali alias Bablu (37), S/O Farid Ali of Aadhar xatra village Golaghat and was forwarded to Judicial Custody. He was arrested under case no 460/21 U/S 120B/413/420/468/471 IPC. Talking to the media, SP Swapnaneel Deka said that later the person was brought on remand for interrogation. During the interrogation, it was learnt that the accused knew some local place & persons engaged in illegal business of betel nut. A team led by OC Bongaigaon PS & IO SI (UB) Krishanu Pathak took the accused person for identification of place and persons. The accused person was taken for identification of one Sapan Mondal & the godown used for illegal business at Chowraguri. After visit ....

GUWAHATI: The Assam health department feels the state may witness the peak of the second wave towards May-end as the number of new cases continues to remain on the higher side.
On Thursday, 75 Covid-related deaths were reported, taking the number of casualties to 304 in the last four days. Though the number of daily cases has marginally dropped to 5,468 from 5,657 cases the previous day, the positivity rate has gone up from 8.85% to 9.18%. The recovery rate stood almost static at 85.59%.
Though chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had insisted on carrying out about 1 lakh Covid tests daily, the number declined to 59,594 on Thurdsay against 63,956 tests done across the state on Wednesday. ....

Dwipen Saud, Top Leader Of Banned Assam Outfit ULFA-I Gunned Down In Encounter

The encounter took place this morning at around 5:30 AM.
Guwahati, Assam:
Top leader of the United Liberation Front of Asom -Independent (ULFA-I), Dwipen Saud, was gunned down this morning after a fierce gun battle with the security forces in western Assam s Bongaigaon district.
Dwipen Saud was the banned outfit s newly appointed western command chief. He was appointed after former deputy commander-in-chief Drishti Rajkhowa surrendered in November.
Shortly after the encounter, doctors at Bongaigaon Civil Hospital said Dwipen Saud was brought dead .
Padum Rai, another outfit member, has been taken into the custody along with two guns, a grenade, and several mobile phones. ....
