Sagicor Group Jamaica, organisers of the charity road race - Sigma Corporate Run, has announced that since Sunday, February 21, it has received over $4 million in donations from corporate entities, individuals and groups, bringing the new total for the beneficiaries to $46.6 million. On Sunday, the group announced it raised over $42 million. “We are truly grateful for the tremendous show of support from corporate Jamaica, individuals and donors from all across the world; this additional funding will help to get even more medical equipment for our hospitals and allow us to do even more with the “Get Back on Track” educational programme”, said Christopher Zacca, President and CEO of Sagicor Group Jamaica. ....

The annual charity road race is aiming to raise $50 million dollars for three beneficiaries - the Annotto Bay and Port Antonio Hospitals, as well as to develop a one-year programme to get the nation’s children back on track with their education. “All donations received during this week (February 15 th – 19 th), Sagicor will match it; over the years, the funds raised for our beneficiaries would come from race registration, tent rentals, cash donations and fund raising executions among Sagicor team members; this year because the run has to be primarily virtually; we won’t see the usual participation of some 25,000 people and we want ensure we meet our target”, said Christopher Zacca, President and CEO, Sagicor Group Jamaica. ....

Even as preparations for this year’s virtual staging of the Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run are in high swing, beneficiaries of the 2020 execution – Bustamante Hospital, Savanna-la-mar Hospital and the Clifton Boys’ Home are celebrating the successful handover of items committed from the record-breaking $55.3 million raised. One of the last large-scale events to be held before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Jamaica, the Caribbean’s largest road race attracted some 26,000 participants on February 16, 2020, who ran, walked and wheeled the 5.5 kilometre route to support the cause and surpass the fundraising target. ....
