Island gets new treatment and recovery beds for adults with addictions

The 100 new beds, provided through 14 organizations, include 46 new spaces in existing treatment and recovery organizations, and 54 beds converted from private-pay beds to fully funded public ones for people who cannot afford private rates.
Some of the beds will be up and running this spring, said Malcolmson, while others will take longer while contracts are put in place. “We are all feeling the urgency to attend to this part of the solution to the overdose crisis and working as quickly as we can to have these spaces open all across the province for the people who are ready to step up for addiction treatment.” ....

New Provincial Funding Announced to Speed Up Addiction Treatment

People seeking to end substance addiction will face shorter waiting times for treatment services.
The provincial government says more than one-hundred spaces for people fighting substance addiction will be funded in 14 organizations in BC.
There will be 46 new spaces created in existing treatment facilities and more than 50 pay-for-treatment will be converted to fully publicly funded spaces.
Treatment beds are considered important when dealing with substance abuse because they provide a safe living environment during recovery.
The additional beds are expected to reduce waiting times for treatment and help reduce gaps for Indigenous people, women, rural communities, and people leaving corrections facilities. ....
