The Tasmanian SB20 fleet will return to the water this Thursday for the first race of their post-Christmas pennant in what marks the start of a full sailing program for Tasmania s premium sportsboat class.
SB20 Australia President, Scott Glanville, is predicting a large number of boats will compete this week, in preparation for the upcoming major regattas. Nick Rogers (Karabos), winner of the pre-Christmas series, will be keen to maintain his form while Phil Reid (Mind Games) and Stephen Catchpool (Rebellion), two of the most consistent performers on the water, will be looking for a series win. ....

The TasPorts Launceston to Hobart fleet took a battering overnight with four boats now retired from the race.
After a slow start, the fleet encountered the forecast west to south westerly winds averaging 25 to 35 knots for Banks Strait and adjacent areas.
At 20:24, Jeff Cordell, skipper of B&G Advantage and a stalwart of the race, retired after his Mumm 36 was dismasted. Sailing underpowered, with a storm jib and a reef in the main, Cordell said the mast broke in two stages and they lost the lot. There was no incident, we had done our rig checks and were underpowered, running dead flat at the time, but something just gave way, with the mast shearing off at the deck. It took us 20 minutes to cut the rig ....

The Port Dalrymple Yacht Club (PDYC), at Beauty Point on the Tamar River, with the SB20 Association of Australia, have announced the northern-based architecture, surveying and engineering firm, 6ty degrees, as the naming rights sponsor of the 2021 SB20 State Championship.
As a pure Tasmanian business, we are excited by the opportunity to partner with the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club and the SB20 Association of Australia, for the first SB20 State Championships to be held in the north of state.
