Absa Bank Employees Donate PPEs To Senior Correctional Centre

Employees of the Risk Function Unit at Absa Bank Ghana have donated essential items and personal protective equipment (PPEs) to the Ghana Prisons Service’s Senior Correctional Centre, formerly known as the Borstal Institute for Juveniles, to support the Centre’s measures taken in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

The items donated, worth GHs10,000, included veronica buckets, nose masks, bundles of tissue papers, gallons of hand sanitizers and liquid soaps as well as soft drinks among others.

At a short ceremony, the Chief Risk Officer at Absa Bank, Mr. Adolph Kpegah who presented the items to the officials of the Senior Correctional Centre said the bank will continue to be a force for good in society by remaining a responsible corporate citizen. ....

Form Three boy who stabbed and killed father sentenced to two years in Borstal institution

A 16-year-old boy, a form three student was recently sentenced to two years in Borstal institution after he pleaded guilty to stabbing his father to death. The teen who had been charged with murder is now facing manslaughter charges following plea bargain agreement signed on November 5 last year.
According to court documents, the teen committed the offense on the night of January 22, 2020 in Kipkelion Sub-County, within Kericho county.
The accused had gone home under unclear circumstances since he was in boarding school. He found his mother preparing bean seeds for planting while his deceased father was away. When his father returned, he found his son eating supper and wanted to know why the accused was at home. ....

All 25 inmates of the Senior Correctional Centre (SCC) presented for the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), have successfully passed.
The Senior Correctional Centre (formally known as the Borstal Institute) is the only juvenile male facility in Ghana under the management of the Ghana Prisons Service.
Twenty-one of them have secured placement in various Senior High/Technical schools across the country, with the remaining four pending placement.
Out of the number, fourteen are still in custody while the remaining eleven have gone on discharge.
In a related development, all three inmates of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison who sat for the NOV/DEC 2020 BECE have also passed with aggregates ranging from 10 to 14. ....
