The government welcomes criticism, genuine requests for help as well as suggestions in the collective fight against Covid-19, but it is necessary to take action against those users who are misusing social media during this grave humanitarian crisis for unethical purposes, one of the people said.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) ordered blocking of the posts on a recommendation from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
On Saturday, it was reported that Twitter had removed around 50 tweets allegedly criticising the central government’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic on MeitY’s instructions. These included tweets of Congress MP Revanth Reddy, West Bengal minister Moloy Ghatak, actor Vineet Kumar Singh and two filmmakers, Vinod Kapri and Avinash Das, according to a post by tech portal Medianama. ....

MLCF posts Rs1.22bln profit in Q3

KARACHI: Maple Leaf Cement (MLCF) has announced a net profit of Rs1.22 billion, translating into earning per share (EPS) of Rs1.11 for the quarter ended March 31, 2021 as compared with the loss of Rs960.09 million in the corresponding period last year.
“The earnings came above expectations primarily due to higher other income presumed to be in the form of dividend from its subsidiary Maple Leaf Power Ltd,” an analyst at Sherman Securities said.
Company’s sales revenues for the quarter under review clocked in at Rs9.47 billion, up 37.2 percent from Rs6.91 billion recorded in the same period last year. ....

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has approved the creation of more posts in the Directorate General of Health Services to enhance the working capacity of the Health Department.
The approval was given at a meeting chaired by the chief minister on Sunday, said an official handout.
Health and Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Health Secretary Imtiaz Hussain Shah, Finance Secretary Aatif Rehman, Director General Health Services Dr Niaz and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
The participants of the meeting were informed that the additional directors-general to be posted at the regional level would be responsible for the recruitment, transfers, postings and promotions of health employees up to Grade 15 at the regional level. ....

PTCL posts Rs1.606bln profit in Q12021

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) posted a net profit of Rs1.606 billion during the quarter ended March 31, 2021, showing seven percent growth in revenues for the first time since Q1 of 2014, a statement said.
The company posted a loss of Rs406.724 million during the same period last year.
The company did not announce any cash dividend. “The significant growth in revenues was mainly driven by strong performance in consumer segment and continued growth momentum in business services that supported PTCL in posting seven percent growth in revenues for the first time since Q1 of 2014. This was achieved despite the negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic,” the statement said. ....
