Desperate Queensland business leaders have called for an end to the long maybes and State Government delays they fear will knobble the state s bounce-back out of COVID.
The cost of doing business in Queensland could rise as much as 30 per cent in construction and infrastructure with the expansion of new industrial relations rules, builders warn.
Industries across the board are warning of a jobs cliff, with shortages in critical areas, including vacancies for 4400 car mechanics statewide and farmers are having to dump millions of dollars worth of crops because they cannot find anyone to pick them - when Queensland has among the highest unemployment in the country. ....

Queensland is in the middle of a series of massive infrastructure projects that will pour billions of dollars into the state and set it up for a post-Covid boom, a roundtable of the state s most influential leaders assembled by The Courier-Mail say.
Inland Rail is doing the planning work that will soon see the project cross from NSW into Queensland with $7 billion being spent and creating 12,000 jobs.
It comes as tunnel work continues on Cross River Rail, with 12 work sites going full bore across the city centre while construction continues on the $3.6 billion Queens Wharf and The Star precinct. ....

Desperate city shops and landlords will offer discount vouchers, gift card giveaways, freebies and coffee deals and even putt-putt in their building foyers in a bid to get workers to ditch Friday work from home and breathe life back into Brisbane s city centre.
CBD offices are sitting one-third empty, among the most vacant in the country despite Queensland avoiding the long crippling lockdowns of other states, with foot traffic dropping by as much as 40 per cent compared to pre-COVID.
The new campaign kicking off tomorrow aims to get workers to change their work from home day from Friday and get them into the CBD and spending money again. ....

Property confidence stages remarkable comeback
The latest results from the ANZ/Property Council Survey reveal surging confidence levels in Queensland’s property sector, despite the slower than anticipated return of workers to major business precincts.
Property industry sentiment in Queensland bounced from 124 points in the December 2020 quarter, to 144 index points in the March 2021 quarter. The result shows that industry confidence has nearly tripled since the height of the COVID pandemic, when a low of 58 index points was recorded during the March 2020 quarter. A score of 100 is considered neutral.
Property Council Queensland Executive Director, Chris Mountford, said the results were nothing short of phenomenal, however, it was critical that the positivity was not taken for granted. ....
