Yoga to set the mind free, even in prison

Parappana Agrahara Central prison are learning to beat the stress. The
Art of Living Foundation is offering yoga sessions to staffers to help them be stress free and to stay fit. The prison has also identified 450 prisoners including those who are under trial for skill development training sessions which will start this month.
The Parappana Agrahara that has over 600 staffers is now focusing on their mental and physical health. Director General of Police and DG, Prisons & Correctional Services,
Alok Mohan started the initiative. The yoga sessions conducted by the Art of living Foundation, will be extended to all the prisoners once all the staff are covered. Each batch has 60 members and the course is conducted for six days inside the prison premises from 6:30 am to 8:30 am. ....

Convict ward turned into COVID facility
The Tamil Nadu Department of Prisons and Correctional Services has vaccinated 30% of the 4,297 convicts lodged in prisons across the State.
Jail authorities organised special camps in coordination with the local bodies to administer vaccines to inmates and prison staff as part of the safety protocols being followed to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Director-General of Police, Prisons & Correctional Services, Sunil Kumar Singh said the target was to achieve 100% vaccination of the convicts, and a majority of the staff/officers had taken the shot to motivate the prisoners to take the vaccine without any fear. ....

The state directorate of Prisons & Correctional Services has recently enrolled the prisoners under the central scheme.
The relatives of the inmates would get Rs 2 lakh for which Rs 330 will be deducted from the accounts of the prisoners every year.
The prisoners selected to be covered under the scheme are engaged in different vocational jobs like brick making, incense stick manufacturing and laundry work. They also have accounts in different banks through which they receive their daily and monthly wages. The insurance coverage will greatly help the family members of the inmates, said sources. ....
