FCT councils get N2.66b as June allocation


[FILES] Ramatu AliyuThe Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), yesterday, disclosed that it had disbursed over N2.66 billion to the six area councils in the FCT and other stakeholders as statutory allocation for the month of June 2021.
The figure showed that there was a minimal drop in revenue from N2,724,546,444.33 disbursed in the month of May to that of June.

The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, who presided over the 155th Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting, appealed to council chairmen and stakeholders to show understanding and make judicious use of the allocation.
The minister, in a statement by his Media Adviser, Austin Elemue, explained that the decline in the allocation was a result of a drop in the statutory revenue allocation from the Federation Account. ....

NUT declares indefinite strike in Niger State


Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Niger State Council, has embarked on industrial action over the non-implementation of the new minimum wage and better condition of service.
Niger NUT Chairman, Ibrahim Umar, the Principal Assistant Secretary-General, Labaran Garba; President, All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Public Schools (ANCOP) in Niger, Ahmed Jafaar and OPSHON Chairperson, Fatima Kutigi, stated in Minna yesterday that the strike followed the resolution by the State Working Committee of NUT on April 30, 2021.
The resolution was due to the state government’s inability to meet the union’s demands after it suspended the previous strike in February. The union’s demands include the immediate implementation of N30,000 minimum wage for Primary School Teachers, payment of primary school teachers’ October 2020 salaries and refund to all teachers of salary cut for April 2021. ....

EKOEXCEL: LASUBEB Completes Training for Fresh 2,000 Primary School Teachers

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has completed the final phase of training for 2,000 newly recruited Primary School Teachers on the integration of technological devices for instructional classroom delivery under the EKOEXCEL initiative of the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to LASUBEB, the training would not only empower and develop the newly recruited teachers and participating head teachers in their careers but also bring them up to speed with how knowledge is being impacted across other parts of the world by including technology in the basic education system.
EKOEXCEL is dramatically accelerating learning, 2 times more learning math and 3 more in literacy. The 2,000 teachers represent the final batch of teachers who completed their training in a session phased in 3 batches to comply with the State Governments Covid-19 regulations. Nigeria can only develop if teacher quality improves - TRCN boss, Ajiboye


For Nigeria to improve on its developmental strides, it must sanitise, invest in and monitor its education sector.
This is according to Prof Josiah Ajiboye, the Registrar, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, who says to do the needed clean up, political powers must support the fight to rid the nation of unqualified teachers and ensure professionalism in the sector.
Ajiboye who was addressing journalists at an interactive session said teachers were critical to the human and capital development of every nation and as such their qualification and standard process must be accorded the highest form of scrutiny.
He, however, said the teacher qualification examination and the mandatory licencing of teachers before they can practice has begun to expose the quacks in the sector and strengthen the quality of teachers in Nigeria. ....
