IOM to establish migration clubs in schools

BENIN CITY – The international Organisation for Migration (IOM) has concluded plans to set up Migration Clubs in schools across Edo State.
As a prelude to this, a Town Hall meeting has been held with key stakeholders to establish linkages on how to integrate migration discussions in schools for the purpose of raising awareness and knowledge on the risk of irregular migration, human trafficking and smuggling of migrants, according to Wintana Tarekegn, IOM Head of Benin City sub-office.
The key stakeholders at the town hall meeting included, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP); The National Orientation Agency (NOA); State Ministry of Education and Association of Private School Owners of Nigeria (APSON). ....

COVID-19: Private school proprietors sue for Tax, renewal waver

BENIN CITY – As part of efforts to cushion the economic effects of COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and #EndSARS protests of last year, private schools owners in Edo State are pushing for Tax and Renewal fee waiver.
The proprietors also urged government to provide “palliatives for our staff whose data could be easily sourced from the state Inland Revenue Service PAYEE record.”
The position was contained in a statement by Edo State wing of the Association of Private School Owners of Nigeria (APSON) and the Association for Formidable Educational Development (AFED)

The National Schools Inspectorate Authority Engages Schools To Ensure A Safe Healthy Re-Opening

Officials of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) on Friday, 8th January, 2021, met with Public and Private Schools to discuss the modalities for the re-opening of schools for the new academic year.
The virtual engagement is one of the many ways the Authority has adopted to guide and support school owners on how to successfully and safely open their schools in the midst of the spread of COVID-19.
Speaking at the virtual engagement, the Executive Director/Inspector-General of Schools of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), Dr. Hilda Ampadu, stated, “NaSIA is committed to health and safety during the start of the new academic year in the midst of the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases. We want to ensure that schools are equipped with the right information amidst preparations for a safe physical re-opening in order to reduce the risk of infections on school campuses.” ....
