National Federation Party leader Prof Biman Prasad says he believes super storm Yasa has affected more than 200,000 people on Vanua Levu and surrounding islands where it made landfall. He said people were in urgent need of water, food, clothes, beddings and financial assistance to rebuild their homes and lives.
Prof Prasad called on Government to immediately deploy army engineers “to inspect and repair badly damaged schools and infrastructure essential for basic services like water supply and health facilities”.
He also called on Government to authorise FNPF to allow withdrawals by members affected by the cyclone to help in rehabilitation of homes and purchase of basic household items. ....

“Don’t dodge the critics.”
That is the call from the National Federation Party leader Prof Biman Prasad while responding to the Health Minister’s response to retired orthopedic surgeon Dr Eddie McCaig’s claims regarding the deteriorating state of Fiji’s health system.
“When will the Health Minister understand. It’s not about dodging criticism.
It’s about working with your critics to get the best outcomes for our people,” he said.
Prof Prasad said Dr McCaig was a doctor with decades of service to the community and country. ....

Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) leader Viliame Gavoka said 70 per cent of the speech made by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in Parliament was dedicated to SODELPA.
He said this showed SODELPA was the only political party that “threatens FijiFirst”.
“At the outset, we are very happy that the Prime Minister gave us about almost 70 per cent of his speech, he spoke on SODELPA.
It is very obvious that he is very worried about SODELPA,” he said.
Mr Gavoka also reaffirmed his position as the party leader. ....
