The budgetary assistance given to Fiji by the Australia and New Zealand Governments is not extra cash lying around, says Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz-Sayed Khaiyum.

Grant assistance of AUD$35 million from the Australian government was received today by Minister for Economy and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at Suvavou House.
Sayed-Khaiyum says this direct budget support was not budgeted for in this financial year.
He says the impact of the past couple of weeks has had an enormous impact on the government s ability to cater for the revenue it had already factored into the budget. ....

Number of people on Social Pension Scheme continues to increase – Vuniwaqa
Number of people on Social Pension Scheme continues to increase – Vuniwaqa

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa says 45,000 people are currently benefitting from the Social Pension Scheme and the number continues to increase exceeding projections.
While speaking in parliament, Vuniwaqa says the scheme has been allocated $55 million.
Vuniwaqa says 25,000 families are under the Poverty Benefit Scheme which was allocated $38.3 million.
The Minister says 52,000 elderly persons and persons with disabilities benefit from the Bus fare Concession which was allocated $6.5 million. ....
