UCOL Lecturer Connects Street Art With Local History

Whanganui’s vibrant arts community came to life last
month with Lights on Bikes making its
return.
Celebrating the newly launched Drews Avenue
streetscape, locals flooded the event with art, lights,
music, and performances. UCOL’s Design Foundation and
Practical Lecturer, Cecelia Kumeroa, worked together with
artist Jodi Clark to create a part of the streetscape,
connecting street art to local history.
The event,
supported by the Government’s Innovating Streets fund,
aimed to boost Drews Avenue’s status as the hub of
Whanganui’s creative community.

Your reporter sadly understated the numbers who attended Saturday s Lanterns on the Awa (News, May 10).
We were told by various experts that there were 3000-5000 over the course of the evening.

UCOL was not involved this year, but Chinese courtesy insists we honour Bronwyn Paul and her team who initiated and directed the event in 2018-19. ....

UCOL Whanganui is offering first-time tertiary students or those looking for a new career direction the chance to dip their toes in new waters next week.
Taster Workshops at the Rutland St campus next Wednesday will offer opportunities to visit the Hospitality and Catering, Beauty, Hairdressing, Early Childhood Education, Creative Industries and Construction departments.
Visitors will be given opportunities to engage with teaching staff in a workshop of their choice and if they like what they see, enrolment advisors will be on hand to advise and sign people up on the spot if they have decided on a course. ....
