HMC temporarily shifts Obstetrics Department at Al Wakra Hospital

Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) announced that its Obstetrics Department at Al Wakra Hospital will be temporarily transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at the same hospital. 
The temporary shift is to complete renovation and some necessary maintenance at the hospital.  
The transfer to the new location is scheduled to take place on February 7 and 8 and services will resume as usual at the original location once maintenance work is completed. 
Patients seeking care at the Obstetrics Department during this period will have to proceed to Gate No. 3 to reach the temporary location instead of the main entrance to the Obstetrics & Gynecology Department, tweeted HMC. ....

Pregnancy complications can increase long-term mortality risks
A research team from the CHUM Research Centre (CRCHUM) has shown that women who have had serious complications during pregnancy are twice as likely to die up to three decades later.
Serious conditions such as stroke, cardiac complications, acute kidney failure and pre-eclampsia affect just under 5 % of women during pregnancy and childbirth.
In a study published in
Obstetrics & Gynecology, CRCHUM researcher Dr. Nathalie Auger and postdoctoral fellow Ugochinyere Vivian Ukah examined the long-term mortality risks of women with these types of pregnancy complications by analyzing more than 1.2 million records of women who gave birth in Quebec between 1989 and 2016. ....
