New Art Installation at Norwest Gallery of Art Uses Floral Design, Nature as Pathways Toward Healing

After the loss of her mother and father and battling COVID-19, owner and chief curator Asia Hamilton found solace in nature and wanted to bring that experience to Detroit.
Healing doesn’t come with a how-to manual. It’s a process with no time limits and as life continues on its axis, coping becomes our navigational system and day-by-day we get through. Historically, gifting and receiving flowers have been a gesture of care and comfort for joyous occasions and sad ones.
The vibrational energy and solace flowers provide in times of great loss is the genesis of a new art installation on view at Norwest Gallery of Art in the Grandmont-Rosedale neighborhood. After battling COVID-19 herself, subsequently losing her mother to the coronavirus and six months prior losing her father, Asia Hamilton, owner and chief curator of Norwest Gallery of Art, turned to nature for refuge. ....

Local businesses team up with Headwaters to raise funds for cardiac care

Each year at Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC), an average of 14,000 residents seek medical assistance due to cardiac concerns at the hospital.
For the second year in a row, Headwaters is hosting the Have a Heart for Headwaters Initiative to raise funds to help cardiac care at the hospital.
“We need the tools and equipment to stabilize these patients before they are either transferred to a partnering hospital for specialized care or being discharged home,” said Kendra Mantler, Coordinator, Community and Corporate Engagement, at Headwaters Health Care Foundation.
Unfortunately, the hospital doesn’t receive government funding to be able to purchase the necessary equipment needed, hence the need of community support coming into play. ....
