Subscriber only Mackay police have been busy attending to several recent assaults, a graffiti incident and shop thefts across the region. Police are appealing for information from the public to help solve these crimes.
Alleged South Mackay assault Police are calling for witnesses to an alleged assault which reportedly occurred about 8.15pm on May 6 in Shakespeare Street, South Mackay. They said a man was travelling in a vehicle and had stopped on Shakespeare Street when multiple motorcyclists approached him. It is further alleged three of the motorcyclists then assaulted the man. Police want anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have relevant dashcam vision, to come forward.

From reels of wire to buggies to cars, police are seeking information to find opportunistic thieves.
Police are appealing to the public to come forward if they know anything about these incidents.
A double dipping thief
A thief targeted an Eimeo house twice in two days on Eulbertie Avenue.
Police said the thief gained access to the house between 9.40am and midnight on March 22.
The thief took photos of credit cards and used them to make a series of online purchases at major online retail stores amassing a significant amount of debt.
The thief also stole a pink computer mouse, coins, foreign currency and a set of keys.

Subscriber only Mackay council workers have mobilised to clean up the region s cemeteries after wet weather sprouted long grass over the summer months. Walkerston resident Joan Hamilton said she noticed the cemetery off the Peak Downs Highway was overgrown when she visited during the Christmas period, and questioned what was being done about it. Mrs Hamilton said the Walkerston grounds were overgrown, and was similar to Mackay Cemetery on Cemetery Rd. Mackay Regional Council development services director Aletta Nugent said staff regularly monitored and maintained the region s cemeteries.
It is the second time the project has been proposed after the first development approval lapsed. The strategic location of the centre, within proximity to the Mackay City centre, will provide essential support services for existing and future residential accommodation, documents stated. Ben Scott has been playing the strings on his cello since he was in Year 3 at Andergrove State School.
“I remember my mum asking me what I was thinking, because it was so big and fragile,” Ben said.
“But I fell in love with the cello and my love has not faltered.”
Mr Scott is now all grown up with plans to study a Bachelor of Music at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music this year.
To help him on his way, he was presented with the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre’s $1000 Jack Sturgeon Bursary on Wednesday.
