MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The Mankato Family YMCA has received two grants to help support area youth.
The first grant is $4,000 for the Brother/Sister mentoring program. The money will go toward recruiting and retaining mentors plus mentor networking. The second grant is $2,000 which will also go to the mentoring program. Those dollars will be used for monthly activities for the participants in the program. Mankato Family YMCA says these grants are a boost after a trying year. ....

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The Mentoring Program at the Mankato Family YMCA was awarded two grants to help fund the ongoing effort to support local youth. Grants were given by the Mankato Area Foundation and the Consolidated Communications Community Fund of the Mankato Area Foundation.
The Consolidated Communications Community Fund awarded $4,000 to the YMCA Brother/Sister Mentoring program. The grant money will support all program efforts including mentor networking, recruiting and retention of mentors, and mentor appreciation. ....

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Gyms and fitness centers are one day into the dialed back restrictions and are seeing results.
Now, gyms and fitness centers can have 50% capacity with a maximum of 250 people in the facility
The loosened restrictions mean the fitness destinations get their numbers and revenue up and avid gym goersâ heart rates up.
Of course, there still is social distancing and masking at the fitness locations.
âWe are lucky to have big spaces so like in some spaces like our wellness center and free weight room. We are able to safely allow more people into the building and still keep that social distance. In our yoga classes in our satellite location, we are able to add a few more spots for members,â said Stephanie Fischer, healthy l ....

MADISON LAKE, Minn. (KEYC) Many organizations and businesses are looking to get back to somewhat of a normal routine this summer as more COVID-19 vaccines become available.
Summer camps are a way for kids to find their independence, inner-self and explore the great outdoors.
“For kids to grow that sense of independence, being here, you know, they don’t have mom and dad to make sure they are doing all of the things that they need to,” said Dustin Slaughter, youth activities coordinator at the Mankato Family YMCA. ....

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The Mankato Family YMCA is hosting a blood drive this week to help with the increased need for blood donations.
The American Red Cross will be at the Mankato YMCA on Dec. 21st from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. in their red gym.
All of the donated blood will be tested for COVID-19 antibodies.
There will be safety measures and physical distancing put in place.
”I think it’s so beneficial, there are so many people that are in need of blood transfusions through this. I’ve seen friends of my own that have corona and had to get blood transfusions. It is a nationwide shortage,” Mankato YMCA Member Relations Director Ashley Dahlman said. ....
